Mr. Barton joined the firm as an associate in 2009. His practice has focused on diverse litigation in complex commercial matters in the specific areas of intellectual property, oil and gas, bankruptcy, construction, lease and contract disputes, subrogation and antitrust law. As a litigator, Mr. Barton has prosecuted and defended a variety of claims and successfully negotiated settlements in and out of mediation. Mr. Barton has assisted clients with a variety of intellectual property matters outside of litigation, including prosecuting state and federal trademark registrations, assisting in the formation of an independent music publishing company and record label and providing advice to employers on policies related to the retention of proprietary information and technology.
Mr. Barton is originally from Lafayette, Louisiana. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration/Pre-Law with a Minor in Economics from Louisiana State University in 2001 and earned a Juris Doctor and Bachelor’s of Civil Law from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University in 2005. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Barton was an associate with Phelps Dunbar, LLP in New Orleans in the Commercial Litigation group.
