John M. Theriot

John M. Theriot joined the Firm in 2024 as an associate in the New Orleans office. John’s practice primarily includes business and commercial litigation, banking litigation, creditor’s rights, bankruptcy, and construction.

John regularly represents banks and financial institutions in commercial debt collection, foreclosure, restructuring, workouts, and lien priority disputes, as well as disputes involving fraud, forgery, embezzlement, theft, conversion, unauthorized withdrawals, electronic funds transfers, credit cards, negotiable instruments, deposit account agreements, and other disputes under the Uniform Commercial Code, including Chapters 3, 4, and 4A, and the National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) Rules.

John also represents businesses and individuals in a wide array of civil matters. John handles matters involving contractors, construction and manufacturing defects, breach of express and implied warranties, breach of contract, leases, franchises, utilities, gaming, insurance, breach of fiduciary duty, estate planning and successions. John has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in both state and federal court, including Louisiana’s Courts of Appeal and Supreme Court.

Before joining the Firm, John attended LSU where he earned his B.A. in political science with a focus in law and legal systems and graduated summa cum laude. He then attended LSU Law where he earned his J.D. and D.C.L. and graduated cum laude. During law school, John gained practical experience through trial advocacy programs and various clerkships in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. John also played in LSU Law’s Barrister Bowl, an annual full pads tackle football game between law students that raises money for local charitable causes.
