David J. Scotton is a partner at the firm and has been with the firm since 2019. Mr. Scotton’s practice includes all types of business and commercial litigation, creditor’s rights, construction, contract, and property disputes, non-competition, non-solicitation, and breach of fiduciary duty litigation, successions, estate planning, and adoptions.

David received his Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication, with a concentration in Political Communication, from Louisiana State University’s Manship School of Mass Communication. He received his J.D. and Diploma in Comparative Law from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University.

During law school, Mr. Scotton served on the Louisiana Law Review and Board of Advocates. Mr. Scotton also competed in several internal Moot Court competitions as well as the Domenick L. Gabrielli National Family Law Moot Court Competition.

He served as an extern for the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office and was a law clerk under the firm’s summer clerkship program for two years. Mr. Scotton is proud to be the subject of the award-winning documentary “I Lived on Parker Avenue” and full feature film “Lifemark”. Lifemark released in theaters nationwide in 2022, grossed over $5.4M nationally and internationally, and reached Netflix’s Global Top 10 in the first week of its release in 2024 with 3.5 million views. David continues to advocate for and share his adoption story around the country and includes adoption as a portion of his practice.

 

REPRESENTATIVE MATTERS

  • Represented plaintiff and secured injunction against the Department of Insurance, State of Louisiana, enjoining the Department from taking any further action against the plaintiff for alleged violations of the Insurance Code;
  • Represented wrongfully terminated employee in an action against a municipality and secured judgment against the municipality and an award of reinstatement and back-pay;
  • Represented bank in a lawsuit filed against it for damages for an alleged breach of warranty of title and secured summary judgment in favor of the bank dismissing all of plaintiff’s claims;
  • Represented employer in an action filed by plaintiff for alleged discrimination and secured summary judgment in favor of employer dismissing all of plaintiff’s claims;
  • Represented energy company and successfully annulled and vacated a judgment pro confesso which was improperly obtained against the company;
  • Represented an heir of a decedent and successfully annulled a forged will which was presented by a co-heir;
  • Represented heir in succession proceeding and secured disqualification of succession representative for breach of fiduciary duty and conversion;
  • Represented lessee in contested eviction proceeding and secured motion for involuntary dismissal of all of the plaintiff’s claims.
