Louisiana Department of Revenue and Taxation Extends Due Dates

In Revenue Information Bulletin No. 20-009 issued on March 23, 2020, the Louisiana Depart of Revenue and Taxation extended the due dates of Louisiana Individual, Partnership, Fiduciary and Corporate Income Tax returns and the payment of any tax for those returns to July 15, 2020.  The extension applies to both the filing of the return and the payment of any taxes that are due with the return.

However, there is no additional time added to the normal extended dates for filing these Louisiana returns, meaning that if a taxpayer requests a filing extension beyond the July 15, 2020 date,  individual, partnership and fiduciary returns would be due November 15, 2020 and corporate returns due December 15, 2020.  If a taxpayer extends the deadline to file a return  beyond the July 15th date, note that in all cases the payment of the tax is deferred no later than July 15, 2020.

Finally, the Uniform Local Sales Tax Board is working on a local rule applicable to all 64 parishes that would provide for tax relief at the parish level in the form of extensions of time to file and to pay without penalty.  We will keep you posted on further developments on this front.
